Important Values
In addition to their outstanding resource potential, ASRC lands possess other important values. ASRC lands are found throughout the major areas of the region -- the Brooks Range to the south; the rolling foothills, and the vast arctic coastal plain stretching north to the Arctic Ocean. ASRC lands, situated in each of these regions have unique recreational values and offer spectacular wilderness experiences. Portions of ASRC lands are adjacent to or within national parks, reserves and wildlife refuges. ASRC understands the importance of these places to its shareholders and to visitors from throughout the nation and the world. To protect and enhance these values ASRC has entered into agreements that protect critical habitats and wildlife and has adopted appropriate operating procedures and restrictions in crucial habitat and scenic areas. ASRC has contributed lands to the National Park System and has granted conservation easements on nearly 52,000 acres of its lands within the Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve.

Edward E. Hopson
"My people's survival has depended on our ability to live with and from the environment. This brings a deep respect for the mammals fish and birds that must be gathered in order for us to survive...we have adapted our hunting practices to include the use of rifles, motorboats and snowmobiles. This does not mean, however that we have lost touch with tradition. We still respect the environment. We respect the lessons of our ancestors and Elders. We are the link between the past and the future. We are the stewards of this great Arctic land. We Inupiat have a strong sense of place...this place is our home." Edward E. Hopson, Land Claims Activist, former ASRC President and founder, and lifelong subsistence hunter. Quote from, Alaska's Arctic, Luken & Hilscher 1991.
