About

Arctic Slope Regional Corporation’s mission is to actively manage our businesses, our lands and resources, our investments and our relationships to enhance Iñupiaq cultural and economic freedom – with continuity, responsibility and integrity.

ASRC is a private, for-profit corporation that is owned by and represents the business interests of its approximately 13,000 Iñupiat shareholders in the villages of Point Hope, Point Lay, Wainwright, Atqasuk, Utqiaġvik, Nuiqsut, Kaktovik and Anaktuvuk Pass.

The corporation owns title to nearly 5 million acres of land on Alaska’s North Slope, which contain a high potential for oil, gas, coal and base metal sulfides. As a steward of the land, the corporation continuously strives to balance management of cultural resources with management of natural resources.

Consistent with the goals of ANCSA, ASRC’s earnings are employed for the benefit of its shareholders and, since inception, ASRC has distributed more than $1 billion in dividends directly to them.

ASRC at 50

Since its incorporation in the summer of 1972, Arctic Slope Regional Corporation has grown into the largest locally owned and operated business in Alaska. ASRC’s success has not come easy or by accident, with decades of growth and expansion credited to the deliberate actions and decisions made by its board of directors and executive leaders.

On June 22, 2022, ASRC celebrated its 50th anniversary. This documentary tells the story of the Arctic Slope Iñupiat’s dedication to its land, culture and community. Through the stories of community elders and current leaders, ASRC at 50 chronicles the fight for the right to the Iñupiat homelands—from United States purchase of Alaska in 1867, through Alaska statehood, to the discovery of oil at Prudhoe Bay and beyond. Fifty years since its inception, ASRC remains more committed than ever to ensuring the prosperity of its business operations and returning those benefits to current and future generations of shareholders.
