ASRC mourns the loss of Raymond Paneak, who served on the ASRC board of directors for over twenty years. First elected in 1992, representing the community of Anaktuvuk Pass, Raymond brought immeasurable wisdom and care into his role as a director before retiring in 2015. Raymond also served as a board member for Arctic Education Foundation for over five years, supporting their mission to bring scholarship opportunities to North Slope students.
The eldest son to the late Simon Paneak, Raymond spent many years in the service of our people. In his role on the ASRC board of directors and through his work as a village liaison with the North Slope Borough, Raymond devoted his time and efforts to building a healthy and sustainable future for our people and our communities. ASRC President and CEO, Rex A. Rock, Sr. shared, “Raymond’s love for our people and our region were evident in all he did. I, along with our board of directors, are grateful for Raymond’s leadership and guidance over the years. Our deepest condolences to the Paneak family and the community of Anaktuvuk Pass during this difficult time.”
